A Child Flushed This Kitten Down The Toilet But The Firefighters Knew What To Do

When you are a first responder, you never know what you are going to see from one day to another. At one moment, you may be relaxing at the station and the next moment, you may be in the middle of something horrific. Not only do they get the opportunity to see unusual things, they also have the opportunity to save lives.

A rather interesting distress call came into the station recently when a three-week-old kitten was trapped inside of a toilet.

1

When the firemen arrived at the scene, they learned that a four-year-old child was left unsupervised and took the female kitten away from her mother. The mother had just had a litter of kittens, and the child decided to flush the young kitten down the toilet.

2

Rescuers could hear the kitten mewing for help and removed the toilet, hoping they would be able to recover the kitten in that way. It turned out it was a little more difficult.

According to Robert Boyd, the Fire Chief, “The kitten had traveled 4 feet and made a turn in the piping where the pipe would go outside to empty.”

They placed the camera down the pipe and showed the kitten lodged just past a bend.

3

It took nearly 3 hours to clean away dirt and cut the pipe but they were finally able to reach in and pull out the trapped kitten.

“The kitten was very lethargic and not moving much. We immediately began to warm her up and put her in a towel. The owners washed her off and placed her back with her mother.”

The kitten is reported to be doing just fine. Thanks to the efforts of first responders, she survived the ordeal. They also named her Miracle.

In the words of Boyd, “We’ve done animal rescues before, but this is the first one we had to dig out of a toilet.”
