People not only have cats as pets, they absolutely love them and at times, they are even borderline obsessed with them. That is why it is little surprise that a purebred cat could fetch a high price. A popular short hair cat, it became known outside of Russia in the late 1800s.

A large, spotted cat, it was bred in California in 1994.
Elf cat
A newcomer to the scene, this cat breed developed in the United States in 2006. They are devoted, smart, curious and quite expensive.
Toyger
It has an appearance of a tiger and was bred to make people think about tiger preservation in the wild.
American curl
Developed in California in 1981, they have unique ears that look like horns.
Bengal cat
This is a cross between a domestic cat and an Asian leopard. They love to swim.
Safari
A rare breed, the Safari is a cross between a domestic and a South American wild Geoffroy’s cat. They got their start in the United States in the 70s for the purpose of studying leukemia.
Khao Manee
Known from early cat book poems, it was, at one time there were a symbol of good luck. They were kept by royal families.
Chausie
A rare breed, it is a cross between a jungle cat and a domestic cat. They are social cats that love being around people and other animals.
Caracal
This cat is in danger of extinction. They are expensive but buying one can help to save this unique species.
Savanna cat
A cross between an African Serval and a domestic cat, they are a large, calm and intelligent animal.
Ashera
The most exotic domestic cat in the world, it is a cross between an Asian leopard cat and a domestic cat. They are hypoallergenic, according to some people.
