We all agree that dogs are great, but some also do crucial jobs. For example, service dogs help those with disabilities live safer and more comfortable lives. And how about guide dogs, who do such a noble job guiding the blind? And our nation’s proud military dogs are no different, putting their lives on the line right alongside our other brave servicemen and women. Whether they are sniffer dogs on the front line, in the airport, or remaining in our local communities, these dogs do a vital service for our country.
With this in mind, the US Postal Service has decided to pay tribute to these brave heroes by way of a brand new stamp collection. The stamps are beautifully designed and commemorate the dogs that are a part of our nation’s military. They now make up this year’s “forever” collection, which honors the “nation’s brave and loyal military working dogs.” And they also happen to be really popular.
Collectors will be sure to want to add these proud military dogs to their growing collections, as well as veterans and dog lovers all over the country. These stamps are selling like hotcakes, so you may want to make a trip to your post office today and pick yours up before they are gone!
The stamps all have a red, white, or blue background with a partial star, and feature the most common breeds of military dogs. These breeds include Dutch shepherds, German shepherds, Labrador retrievers, and Belgian Malinois. And all are pictured wearing their work harnesses.
“As a military veteran and former law enforcement officer, I have the greatest appreciation for these animals and the service they provide,” said David C. Williams, vice chairman of the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors. “Today, these dogs are born and raised to serve alongside soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen and women, and members of the Coast Guard. They are heroes deserving of our respect and gratitude.”
“The red, white and blue color scheme represents the American flag and the patriotism displayed by military working dogs,” said the postal service.
