Meet ‘184’, The World’s First Test-Tube Penguin

Meet 184, the world’s first test-tube penguin. And yes, scientists named the cute penguin with a number.

She was hatched in May 2014 at SeaWorld, a successful penguin breeding program in San Diego, California. ‘184’ now becomes the first penguin in the world to be conceived using artificial insemination.

The adorable baby penguin is the result of a decade of research by Dr. Todd Robeck, SeaWorld’s VP of Theriogenology, and Dr. Justine O’Brien, the center’s Scientific Director.

Currently, the bird is 2 weeks old and is feeding on fish.

Science rocks!
