Very recently, Myla Aguila was walking by a village close to her home in the Philippines when a curious scene caught her attention.
Squatting atop a small hill, just off the road, was a young boy facing a little problem. It appeared that one of his flip-flops had fallen down a steep dirt slope and was now out of his reach.
Although the boy could have probably climbed down to grab it, someone else was there to lend a helping hand (or in this case bill). It was a very kind and thoughtful duck who went to a lot of trouble to return the child’s flip-flop to him.
Aguila couldn’t believe what she was witnessing and neither could a small crowd of villagers that had also been looking at this scene. The bird had done this random human child a solid.
“I was dumbfounded,” Aguila wrote online, going on to say: “The duck is kind. He really helped, even though he doesn’t know the child.”
The heartwarming incident defies any natural explanation. But for Aguila, it’s open her eyes to the level of emotional complexity and empathy that she would have never imagined a duck could possess. It has changed her outlook for the better.
“There is a feeling like a person,” she wrote, adding: “I will feel mercy on them because of what I saw.”
