It doesn’t matter who we are, when it comes to Christmas time, many of us are going to have a specific movie in mind. In fact, it probably isn’t Christmas until you watch that movie at least a dozen times. For some, it is one of the older animated movies and for others, it could even be The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. As it turns out, there is a relative newcomer to the scene and it is officially the best Christmas movie of all time.
If you have been looking for a great Christmas movie to watch, either on your own or with the children, there is one that should definitely be at the top of the list. It is not only a great Christmas movie, it has been voted as the best family Christmas film of all time. There you have it, the debate is over and although you may watch a number of different Christmas films this year, there is one that should not be skipped.
Of course, I’m talking about Elf, a movie that starred Will Ferrell. It came out in 2003 and it was quickly followed up by a number of other Christmas films that were also fantastic in their own right. Even though it is at the top of the list, you may also want to consider some of the other films for your family.
Elf was at the top of the list but according to Ranker, the nightmare before Christmas was coming in at a close second. A Tim Allen movie, the Santa Clause came in third place, followed by A Christmas Carol and Deck the Halls.
Perhaps you are thinking of some other Christmas movies that should have made the list, but consider the fact that movies such as Bad Santa and Die Hard are not exactly family-friendly when it comes to the kiddies. One thing that does surprise us, however, is that Love Actually and Home Alone are not even mentioned.
So the wait is over, Elf has been given the top position on the list.
Elf stars Will Ferrell, Zooey Deschanel and James Caan. It follows the story of Buddy, an elf who works for Santa but leaves the North Pole to find his biological father.
The movie had a $33 million budget but it made six times that much money at the box office. Even Rotten Tomatoes, which is not typically quick to give out good ratings, gave an 84% to Elf. They even provided additional kudos, saying: “A movie full of Yuletide cheer, Elf is a spirited, good-natured family comedy, and it benefits greatly from Will Ferrell’s funny and charming performance as one of Santa’s biggest helpers.”
Last year, people were outraged when Elf was not being played on any British television stations on Christmas day.

One twitter user even said that it wasn’t Christmas without elf and another said “Could 2016 really get any worse?”
Unfortunately, 2016 did get much worse. Even though that tweet was posted on December 19, 2016 went on to lose Debbie Reynolds, Carrie Fisher and George Michael.
Hopefully it was a lesson learned and this year, people will be able to watch Elf in all its glory.
