Kyle Upham and his fiancée, Kristen, were looking for a diamond ring in Santa Barbara at a jewelry store. There was only one customer in the store but they didn’t pay much attention to him at first. The man told the couple to take a closer look at more expensive jewelry but they told him they couldn’t afford it.
When they started talking, they found out that the customer was Paul Walker. Kyle told the actor he was in the military and was leaving for Iraq for a second tour of duty. He wanted to give his fiancée and engagement ring before he left.
They didn’t pay much attention to what happened on that day or to the way that his face transformed when he heard that Kyle was a soldier. They left the store without buying anything because the diamonds were too expensive.
There was soon a surprise waiting for them. The store called and asked them to come take a $9000 ring paid for by an anonymous individual. They tried to find out who gave them a gift but the person working at the store refused to name the benefactor.
The truth finally came out in 2013 when the actor died. A former worker at the jewelry store decided it was no longer necessary to keep the secret.
According to the employee, Paul Walker saw that Kristen loved one of the rings but her fiancé was unable to afford it. Paul asked the manager to put the ring on his tab and insisted that it remain anonymous. He was upset the soldier couldn’t afford to buy a ring for his fiancée.
