Many of us look back to the days when we were young and in love with a smile on our face. For those who are young today and falling in love, things may not be so easy to manage. Love is still the same but the world is quite expensive. You have to worry about housing expenses, student loans and finding a good job.
Some people have decided that a fancy, expensive engagement ring just doesn’t fit into the budget. That is the case with Ariel, a 22-year-old bride who decided she would skip out on much of the fluff of her wedding and pay attention to what really matters in life, the love that she felt for her husband to be. When Ariel and her husband to be, Quinn, met, it was under what many people would consider to be unusual circumstances. They fell in love on their very first date, which was two years ago.
After they met online, they spoke on the phone for two conversations and they instantly hit it off.
The plan was to get married right away but they decided that at 20 years of age, they were still a little young. They wanted to wait until they were more established.
When Ariel and Quinn celebrated their two-year anniversary of being together, they decided they wanted to get married. Something that happened, however, was that they couldn’t afford a traditional diamond engagement ring. Ariel was perfectly happy to forgo that expense.
I wasn’t even thinking about rings, I just wanted to marry my best friend, but he wouldn’t have it. He scraped up just enough money to buy me two matching rings from Pandora. Sterling silver and CZ to be exact. That’s what sits on my ring finger, and I am so in love with them.
Ariel was happy with the modest ring set but a saleswoman had to put in her two cents and ruin the occasion for both of them.
After they picked up the ring, the saleswoman made a remark “Y’all can you believe that some men get these as engagement rings? How pathetic.” She didn’t know that they were buying it as an engagement ring.
Ariel had the following to say in her post.
…husband’s face fall. He already felt bad because he couldn’t afford the pear-shaped set that so obviously had my heart and covered my Pinterest page. He already felt like a failure, asking me again and again “Are you sure you’ll be happy with these? Are you sure this is okay?” He was so upset at the idea of not making me happy enough and of me not wanting to marry him because my rings didn’t cost enough money or weren’t flashy enough.
Ariel showed a lot of class in her response.
“Old Ariel would have ripped that woman a new one. Mature Ariel said, “It isn’t the ring that matters, it is the love that goes into buying one that matters.” We bought the rings and left.”
She reassured her fiancé that it was all that she needed. When the two eloped, they did so in a romantic courthouse ceremony.
Ariel has been contacted by some major news outlets after the story hit Facebook.
Even Pandora, where the two met the rude saleslady, released their own statement saying: “PANDORA Jewelry regrets that Ariel and Quinn had this experience while shopping for such a meaningful testament of their love. Their experience is not keep with our brand values or what we expect from those who sell our products”
This is one young woman that certainly has her priorities straight.
