It’s not every day we hear about a legendary feat of strength that’s literally only been replicated a handful of times over the last few decades. Lucky for us, we saw history repeat for back in 2018 when Australian strength athlete Leigh Holland-Keen became only the second woman in the history of the strongwoman contest at Potarch Bridge in Aberdeenshire, Scotland so accomplish something most men on the planet couldn’t do.
On August 5th, 2018, Holland-Keen was competing at the Ardblair Stones at Donald Dinnie Day, The Gathering II. this competition had many different stone lifting contests, but the most notable lift was definitely Scotland’s legendary Dennie Stones.
The Dinnie Stones are two massive stones with metal handles that have a combined weight of 733 pounds! Individually, the smallest of the two stones weigh 322 pounds, while the larger comes in at a crushing 414 pounds. At the qualifying competition, holland-Keen managed to lift the stones, which made her only the second female strength athlete ever to achieve this feat.
Since their discover back in 1953, only 90 men in the world have been able to lift the stones, while only five could hold it longer than 30 seconds, and only one other woman could ever lift them.
Who was this incredible woman? Back in 1979, strength legend, Jan Todd became the first female strength athlete to lift the Dinnie Stones.
We are so proud to see Holland-Keen follow in Todd’s footsteps. Hopefully, more ladies will make history soon.
Here’s the video of her incredible feat of strength.
