It was unusual for them to send anything unhealthy but they also know how important it is to have a treat every now and again.
“The slice was homemade for her brother’s birthday and as per family tradition, leftovers went to school the next day.”
As it turns out, homemade cakes don’t violate the school rules.
The problem is that they asked her not to send the cake in school lunch. The mother probably would not have minded if they had contacted her in a kind way but they did so in a rude way.
The note they sent home was unacceptable. No parent should be shamed in that way.
Admittedly, this is probably just because the teacher was in a rush but it does send the wrong message.
Beyond the fact that parents are being shamed for what they choose as food for their children, the kids may also start to develop an unhealthy attitude toward what foods are good and what are bad.
