As we get closer to the holiday season, companies around the world are doing their part as far as decorations are concerned. Starbucks is no different and similar to what they have done in years past, they decided to come out with a holiday themed cup. The problem is, it seems to be offending some people!
Every year, there are various conspiracy theories and individuals who claim that corporations are placing a “War on Christmas.” Although it will likely make its rounds to many companies during this holiday season, Starbucks is the first out of the starting gate to offend somebody.
Every year, Starbucks comes out with a coffee cup that is themed for the holidays. This year, they unveiled their new design which is somewhat of a minimalist look. According to their description, the cup comes “with a bright poppy color on top that shades into a darker cranberry below.”
Apparently, Starbucks has what they consider to be a “holiday red” and there is no doubt that it is a bright and exciting color. According to Jeffrey Fields, Starbucks vice president of design and content… “The ombré creates a distinctive dimension, fluidity and weightedness.”
Okay then…
As you can see, there are differences between the design this year and what Starbucks has done in previous years. Prior to this year, they usually included some wintry icons on the cups, such as snowflakes. It is the absence of those icons that is infuriating some people!

David Burroughs, a British conservative at this to say…
“The Starbucks coffee cup change smells more of political correctness than a consumer-led change,”
Simon Calvert of the Christian Institute added the following…
“What is it about Christmas that Starbucks are afraid of celebrating. Haven’t they heard it’s the most wonderful time of the year, and the season of good will to ALL men? They should get involved and stop being scrooges.”
