We sometimes see that people are given a hard time when they do something out of the ordinary. That includes people who may have a love interest that is of a different generation.
One of those individuals is Richard Gere. People recognize him because of the role that he has played in some of the best movies of all time. He was even named the sexiest man alive by people’s magazine in 1999.
Back in 2018, however, he did something that made a lot of people stand up and take notice. He married Alejandra Silva, a Spanish publicist in Spain. They then had a civil ceremony in NYC. This marriage wasn’t something out of the blue, they had been dating for four years.
The thing is, Richard Gere is 72 years old but his wife is 38 years old. Many people are shocked at the age, by both of those actually involved in the marriage are extremely happy.
It isn’t unusual for them to go on social media and share some details about their life together. It has been noted that he will often write her songs and in the morning, one of the questions he asks is what he can do to make her happy. Silva said in an interview to Hello! Magazine: “I was a little lost, without life, and knowing him gave meaning to my life.”
They each have a child from a former marriage and they have two kids together, one board in 2019 and another in 2020. Both of the children are boys.
They started dating back in 2014. As far as knowing each other, however, she met him when she was a teenager after he had bought a boat from his father. They didn’t have much of a relationship with each other until they met again in 2014 and stayed at the same hotel that was owned by her family.
After being reintroduced at the hotel, to begin the formal relationship very quickly. She said: “We looked at each other and felt a very strong connection. We couldn’t stop looking at each other all night, and since then we haven’t been apart.”
After dating for four years, they decided to get married but they did have some difficulties along the way. Both of them were going through a divorce when they met and that weighed heavy on their relationship with each other.
Silva also spoke with Madrid ABC, saying: “I was born Catholic, but converted to Buddhism two years ago. I think it was already inside of me. I believe in reincarnation, so that’s why I think I was Buddhist before realizing it.”
When it was finally time for them to get married, they had a very romantic time together. The wedding was everything you would expect from a celebrity couple but they kept things relatively private as well.
Silva is the one that talks the most about their relationship but Gere has a lot to say about it as well. He said: “I’m married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who’s fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who’s a great cook…you can’t get any better than that.”
No relationship is going to be perfect and these two do have some differences. Through it all, however, it seems to work quite nicely.
