The Best Mini-Home Ever

There is no doubt that being a parent is a lot of work and some people consider it to be a full-time job. In reality, it is more than full-time, because it doesn’t matter what time of the day it is or where you are, you’re always on the clock. For at least 18 years after the day that they are born, you care for them in a number of ways. That would include clothing them, feeding them and making sure that they are raised properly.

Eventually, the children grow up and move out and when that happens, the parents may find themselves in an odd situation. Not only do they have less people moving around inside of the home, they have fewer chores, including laundry, dishes and cooking.

The feeling of most parents go through during this time is known as “empty nest syndrome.” Although there are many ways to treat the problem, many parents find something to fill their time, such as volunteering, a hobby or perhaps a sport.

One woman that has found a unique way to handle the situation is MJ Boyle. After her children left home, she built a tiny house and put everything she had into it. It took a year to construct but you can see the entire process on her blog at a glance. Here are some of the things you can expect to see when you look in her home.

Ever since she was a young girl, MJ was interested in things tiny and old.

Her inspiration came from an abandoned farmhouse near her home. She then began making sketch plans for the house and she called it “My Empty Nest.”

2

The project was started to help relieve some of the stress she was experiencing after her children moved out. On her blog, she told her children that they were her “happy place.”

“[you’ve] given me challenges to conquer and problems to solve.”

3

As she began construction on the home and maintaining it, she found that he gave her a sense of purpose. Even when she was having a bad day, she could find some joy in the project.

4

“Even though we couldn’t get your heater to work, we had Thanksgiving Dinner in your living room. I even made a tiny table just big enough for a turkey dinner for two.”

5

Her friends and family came to see the home and they loved it!

6

“I’m not sure that others would be so emotional about their tiny houses, but this ending is so bittersweet for me.”

7

Encouraging phrases, along with pieces of wisdom are included throughout the house.

8

MJ does not yet live in the tiny home full-time. She is still working on upgrades, including adding upholstered chairs.

9

It is her hope that the tiny home will become a place where friendships and love can grow.

10

“You have helped me see that no matter where my kids are, and even if I am your only official occupant, you will never be truly empty.”
