Not every hero is going to wear a cape and most of them don’t have the ability to fly. When they do something special, however, it is absolutely amazing and many of us are in awe over their abilities. That was the case when an unknown hero managed to save about old dog from raging waters.
It all started when Sara Melnicoff’s 13-year-old dog, Carli, was swept up into the waters of Mill Creek. The dog is senile and has arthritis, and it was all that she could do just to tread water.
This Facebook post by Sarah has been shared almost 5000 times.
“I saw [Carli] rush by, unable to do more than keep her head above water. I was running along the creek, calling her name…”
Just as Sara was about “to take [her] shoes off and go in the water to try to get [Carli],” a complete stranger sprang into action to help save Carli.
“…This young man appeared out of nowhere and stripped down to his boxers. He plunged into the water, making his way along the slippery rocks, while the powerful currents of the water rushed all around him. He managed to get a hold of Carli down stream some distance.”
It seemed as if this man’s actions came just when they were needed as Sara wrote that Carli was “shaking like a leaf and didn’t have much energy left.”
Incredibly grateful to this man’s saving of her furry companion, Sara wanted to give back to him just a portion of what he gave to her and Carli.
“I was very shaken and teary when he brought Carli to me. I asked him his name and gave him a huge hug. I asked him what his favorite charity was so I could donate in his name and he told me he runs a non-profit!”
Bobby L’Heureux, the man who saved Carli, runs Big Heart, Big Hands, a non-profit that “raises money for mountain rescue organizations, supports the awareness and implementation of mountain safety education, and assists with funding for those who have been rescued and their families.”
