When the weather turns cold outside, British homes become the focus of an invasion. They are not being invaded by people, they are being invaded by giant house spiders that are the size of your hand and they do bite! Those with arachnophobia may want to start panicking now.
The arctic weather that is sending temperatures down to -10° in Britain is the culprit. According to the latest forecast, we can expect another two weeks of arctic weather, and these spiders are not going to stay outside for long.
Nick Oldham, a father from Macclesfield, took a picture of one of these enormous spiders that invaded his home over Christmas. He provided this simple warning:
“These things are seriously big. Imagine the horror on my son’s face when he spotted this big boy on his wall.”
Additional homeowners in the Cheshire area have also been reporting some run-ins with these giant spiders. It is feared that the spiders may be doing more than coming in from the cold, they may be looking for a place to lay their eggs.
If you should happen to come in contact with one of these giant house spiders, it is not out of the question to get bitten. Although the news is bad for homeowners, there may be more to the story.
An Arachnologist stated that this breed of spider is similar to the Golden retrievers of the spider world. He went on to say that they were “much less shy than their relatives.”
Let’s hope for warmer weather soon.
