Lovely ‘Tucked Away’ Farmhouse From The 1800s Restored To Its Former Glory

Having a home certainly does give you something to call your own but there are many different types of homes to choose from. For some of us, home is where you hang your hat, but for others, it is something much more. At times, it can even be quite beautiful, and that is what you are about to see in this restored farmhouse.

This farmhouse is from the 1800s, and it was discovered on a protected property of some 500 acres. When they saw the farmhouse, they saw the potential. Sure, they knew that it was going to take some work but restoring it to its former beauty would provide many benefits.

Currently, it is in phase 2 of completion, with a lot more being added on. Even now, however, it is beautiful and someplace any of us would be proud to call home.

Our new front door colour reveal: Cinder by Benjamin Moore. The colour was a bit of a struggle {took three different colour choices and nine coats of paint before deciding ??}, but I am so glad we ended up with Cinder – I think it matches so well! I learned so much in the process that hopefully can help other folks who may want to paint theirs… A few things I wish I had known first: 1) to paint sample boards in the beginning and place them by the door to see how the colours change in different lighting {thank you @me.benson for this common sense tip! ?} 2) I received advice from multiple sources on what brushes to use {everyone recommended something different}, but ultimately I found my personal favorite to be a size 1.5" brush and foam roller to get the job done. I loved the precision of the smaller brush versus the larger ones, and I'd use it even to feather over the foam roller strokes to ensure that everything was even. 3) When taping the areas I didn't want paint {like the hinges}, I purchased a craft knife to cut the tape perfectly – makes it so much simpler! Next up: staining the deck ?. #renovation #homereno #doorpaint #farmhouse #farmhousestyle #paintcolour #connecticut #weekendwarrior

The home’s front door has been painted a stormy gray that coordinates beautifully with the exterior siding.

Rustic wood beams, as seen above, and other original details reference the time-honored charm of the home.

The impressive kitchen features white cabinetry, a beautiful curved range alcove and an expansive butcher block island.

Chilly winter evenings are best served in this comfortable dining room complete with a fireplace and exposed wood ceiling beams.

The den’s moody atmosphere is accented by wood clad walls and a wood-burning fireplace.

A freestanding tub is set into a bathroom nook to create a restful retreat for the homeowners.

I probably should have made the bed a little neater before taking this picture, but the reality is that it never really is – so why pretend? ? The print above our bed is of #coutu on Nantucket by George Riethof… It's our little piece of #ack in CT. I wanted our bedroom to have elements of the beach to remind us of our favorite place {seafoam green and sandy colours} but still blend in with the woodsy, rustic look of the rest of our house. There's still more work to be done {like eventually installing reclaimed barn beams across the ceiling}, but it's getting there! Hard to believe that this space used to be what we called our "hobbit room" – you had to access it either from a tiny door or up a very steep, antiquated set of stairs with barely any clearance for your head. ? We've come a long way. On deck this week: tackling a new colour for our front door while the playroom slab is poured and framing FINALLY begins. #masterbedroom #interior #interiordecor #farmhouse #farmhousestyle #beachhouse #beachhousedecor #renovation #homerenovation #antique #interiordesign

The master bedroom has been designed to incorporate aspects of the homeowner’s beloved beach house in Nantucket. This can be seen especially in the large photograph of the coast.
