If you have ever had the opportunity to see the Eagles in concert, it is something that you will never forget. After all, they were just as iconic when they were touring a few years ago as they were when they were together back in the 70s. It seems as if they have done something else iconic, as there Greatest Hits 1971-1975 is now 38X platinum. The Recording Industry Association of America says that it is now above Michael Jackson’s record, Thriller.
The Eagles record has made it to this ranking in the past. The same greatest hits album spent 10 years as the best-selling record in history prior to the time that Michael Jackson’s Thriller beat it by going to number one. It again took over that ranking when he died in 2009.
The Greatest Hits 1971-1975 has some iconic music on it, including “Take It Easy,” “Heartache Tonight,” “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Desperado,” “Take It To The Limit” and “Tequila Sunrise.”
Hotel California, their 1977 album is at 26X platinum, so it is the third best-selling album of all time. It’s amazing and the band is still touring, even after being together 47 years and losing Glenn Frey when he died.
“We are grateful for our families, our management, our crew, the people at radio and, most of all, the loyal fans who have stuck with us through the ups and downs of 46 years. It’s been quite a ride,” band member Don Henley said in a statement.
The Eagles are currently touring with Vince Gill and Glenn Frey’s son, Deacon.
