In 2012, a photo of John Unger and his aging rescue dog named Schoep was taken by his professional photographer friend, Hannah Stonehouse Hudson.
Many people were touched by their story on Facebook, as the man regularly brings his 19-year old shepherd mix to Lake Superior, Wisconsin. Schoep is suffering from arthritis and has troubles getting to sleep.
The dog only gets regular sleep every time John carries him to the water.
Schoep passed away in July 2013.
