Meet Joseph “Gabe” Sonnier, the school principal of Port Barre Elementary in Port Barre, Louisiana. And yes, he is the former janitor of that same school.
In 1985, Joseph was working as a janitor at the elementary school when the principal inspired him to go back to school.
At age 39, Gabe enrolled in college while working as a janitor. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 2008, and later a master’s degree in Education.
He started teaching at that elementary school and became the principal in November 2013.
