I’d like to introduce you to Friar Bigoton, also known as Friar Moustache. He is a stray dog in Bolivia who just happened to walk into the St. Francis monastery. What is interesting is that the monastery was named after a saint who was the patron of animals. It is therefore only a natural extension that the monks would give a helping hand and invite the dog to live with them.
Friar Moustache gladly accepted, and now he walks the streets inside of the monastery. In fact, they even dress them up like a little monk and he gets to follow them around as they attend to their duties. It is rather interesting to see that he has taken to life in the monastery so well but why not? It’s obvious that they have provided him with a loving forever home.

It’s only a natural extension that they would lend him a helping hand and allow him to live with them.
He is now a happy doggie as he wanders around the streets inside of the monastery.

He even gets to wear a habit. You can check them out as he performs his monk duties.

His adoption was initiated by Proyecto Narices Frías (Cold Nose Project), an animal rescue in the area.
They hope other monasteries will follow suit
“If only all the churches [would] adopt a dog… we are sure that the parishioners would follow the example”
