Mom Sets Example For Sons By Having Them Carry ‘Emergency’ Period Products for Girls at School

As males, many of us don’t realize just how difficult it can be for women to do many of the things we take for granted. For example, during certain times, women have to take special precautions against bleeding through their clothing, something most guys could never imagine doing. In fact, according to a UNICEF report, around 26 percent of people on planet Earth menstruate. That’s one in four human beings who have periods. And for many girls and women, discussing this topic is strictly taboo. One of the biggest obstacles, especially for disadvantaged women, is obtaining the proper hygienic products they need during their periods.

Very often, young girls are forced to wear shirts and sweaters around their waist to hide embarrassing stains. However, one mother named Tara Ahrens decided she wanted her sons to understand better what the girls at their school go through.

So, she decided to teach her sons, Micah (age 15) and Elijah (age 16), about tampons. t only that, she took them tampoon shipping at Target during their back-to-school shopping.

In addition, the boys were along when their little sister was buying her first bra “because breasts happen.” The mom also added, “for good measure,” she has both of her sons carry a sanitary pad and tampoon in their backpacks just in case they have a friend who needs one. Her approach is quite revolutionary, and it’s received mixed reviews.

But, she says that she’s just “trying to earse gender taboos.” The post received over 70K relations, and people are still talking about it.

She says most of the comments are fairly positive, and her post had caused many older women to share their personal Horry stories about starting their periods when they were young. Many recalled occasions when they desperately needed hygienic supplies but didn’t have access to them.

However, many folks felt offended that she was trying to change how boys understood periods.

But, it seems that menstruation is still one topic many people consider taboo to discuss. However, Tara is convinced her sons will grow up with a better understanding of what women go through and become more well-rounded humans in the process.
