Nurse Takes Care of 175 Sick Cats at Home

Meet Maria Torero, the nurse who takes care of more than 175 sick cats in her own home.

Torero, 45, from Lima, Peru, has converted her two-story, eight-room apartment into a cat hospital. Most of the cats have been diagnosed with leukemia and respiratory infections.

Also a mother of three, Maria pays around $25 for the medical examination of each sick cat she finds in the streets.

She says she adopts them because no one would do it, especially for those with terminal illneses.

What a very noble mission!
