When you watch the news or read articles online, you rarely ever see police officers put in the light that they deserve. Far too frequently, the news is bad and the media does tend to dwell on negative factors for rating purposes. From time to time, however, you hear something positive and it is always worth noting.
This story happened when a Mississippi police officer who was working in Gulfport. His name was John McConnell and a little girl did something for him that touched his heart. We are certain that it will touch your heart as well!
The little girl, who was perhaps 3 or 4 years old, was in the area with her mother. She walked up to the police officer and in her hand was a teddy bear. In the words of the police officer:
“I heard her mother tell the little girl to tell me. I turned and asked what I could do for her and she hands me her bear.”
I tried to give it back but she refused. She looked up at me and said it was to keep me safe.”
Local reporters found out that the little girl does have police officers in the family and she wants to ensure that all of them are kept safe. Her teddy bear seems to be up to the job, and after thanking the little girl, officer McConnell strapped the bear into the passenger seat and he has been on patrol with him ever since!
“What a way to make the day better. I did not get her name but she said they were from Texas.”
What an amazing little girl! We’re so happy that officer McConnell has a passenger helping to keep the streets safe.
