A Kind Cashier Gets Kudos on Facebook

At times, all it takes is a photo to move somebody to action. That is what is being experienced by this store cashier, who is showing kindness to a toddler and it moved a parent action!

The photograph was taken by Kimberly Grandinette of Enon, Ohio. While the cashier rang up groceries on December 13, she held her son, Paul Jr. The cashier’s name is Kristen Clark and Paul Jr. is only 3 years old.

“I snapped the photo because it was a really sweet moment. My son loves to help and it’s not very often where someone would actually bring him behind the register and let him. I knew in my head I wanted to thank her…I just never thought that it would go this far.”

Paul and his mother had gone into the Meijer store in Springfield, Ohio. They were picking up some grocery items for the week and then going to visit her brother in Remington. He is currently being treated for a kidney and immune disorder at the hospital.

Paul Jr was having a difficult time with the new routine of the family, and it was expressed to Kristen as she rang up the groceries.

Kristen offered to have Paul come behind the register to provide assistance for scanning coupons. The mother obviously felt that this scene was heartwarming, which is why she took the picture.

“She had him on her hip and was showing him how to scan the bar code. It was a really sweet thing to do. He loved it. He was smiling from ear-to-ear and just skipped out of the store. He plays register all the time at home, so it was really cool for him to do that in real life.”

Grandinette shared this photo on Facebook approximately one hour after taking it. She did so to thank the cashier for the gesture.

It didn’t take long for the post to rack up over 148,000 likes!

“One thing about my customers, is I try and engage with all of them, rather than what you hear about cashiers, them being robotic. We were talking and she was saying that she was going to visit her son [in the hospital].”

Kristin was happy to allow Paul to help scan his mother’s coupons. She didn’t know that the picture have been taken until she logged on to Facebook later that night.

“I said ‘Oh my goodness, I didn’t know she even took a picture of me. It just kept growing and growing and I said ‘Is this a dream?’

“I thought it was so sweet. It felt so good that somebody took time out of their day to say something nice and for people to take a liking to it, it made me feel really good.”

A representative at the Meijer store released the following statement to ABC news:

“We are proud to have incredible team members, like Kristen, who go out of their way to provide great customer service. This is another reminder that compassion and kindness go a long way.”

We find her kindness inspirational as well!
