When a dog arrives at the shelter, it is always with the hope that they will be adopted as soon as possible. That was also the hope for Delilah, who entered the Santa Barbara shelter in October, 2008. When she got there, nobody could have any clue how long she would remain in the shelter.
It has been almost 7 years since Delilah first came to the shelter, and she continued to wait to be adopted into a forever family. She was only six months old when she arrived at the shelter and now, she is seven years old. Her owner just didn’t have the ability to keep her any longer. Although it is easier for puppies to get adopted than older dogs, she just kept getting passed over.
One reason that she may have had a difficulty is because she tended to be shy. Erica Jackson, a canine adoption counselor had the following to say:
“She is a little timid when meeting new people but once she gets to know you she is such a sweetheart”
The shelter posted a picture of Delilah on Facebook posing next to a sign with a detailed description of how long she had been at the shelter. She had been there 2531 days.
Delilah is the longest dog to be in the shelter and, although the staff loves her, they want desperately for her to find her own home.
“I know her transition into a home will be a hard one because of her length of stay at our shelter, but I’m hoping that right person will come forward and want to dedicate time to her,” said Jackson.
Delilah loves playing outside and especially playing in the kiddie pool. She also enjoys giving kisses and sharing quiet moments with people she loves.
Delilah has never really known what it is like to live as a part of a family. She entered the shelter when she was only six months old.
It would be best if Delilah could move into a home with no other pets and if it was close enough to the shelter so the transition could be seamless.
