Time passes very quickly and 2 years may not seem like more than a drop in the bucket. When it is two years apart from your very best friend and comrade in arms, it seems like forever.
When it comes to those we are closest to, we would never be complete unless we included the dogs that mean so much to us. They are more than a pet, they are a part of the family.
Sometimes, our furry friends are there to give us love and attention. At other times, they are there to protect us from harm. There are also times when they do it all.
I’m sure that is how Sheldon Holland feels about his beloved dog, Django. They met in 2011 when they were both assigned to serve in Afghanistan. Sheldon was a US American K9 Detection Services Explosives handler, and Django was his companion. They spent 18 months together.
After their tour, Sheldon when home to Pietermaritzburg, South Africa but he couldn’t take Django with him. He knew in his heart that he would have to come back to get him.
Bringing Django to his home was not an easy thing to do. There was a lot of paperwork and hassle involved but Sheldon held onto hope that he would get his beloved companion back by his side.
It took two years but it was finally time for them to be reunited. Django was quarantined in Kempton Park after arriving at the O.R. Tambo International Airport. Sheldon was waiting.
when they saw each other again, there was only a gate between them. Django was wagging his tail and pulling on the lead and Sheldon was calling to him from the other side.
Once the gate was opened, there were hugs and doggy kisses waiting. Sheldon was telling him: “I told you I was coming to get you. I told you, my boy.”
This is a reunion that is sure to bring tears to your eyes. You can see it for yourself in the following video:
