Rescue Effort To Save Handicapped Puppy. Owner Thought It Was An April Fool’s Joke!

It’s incredible what a deaf, blind puppy by the name of Dunhill went through when he got lost. Owner Angela Beer realized her 15-year-old jack russell was missing from their home, located in the Auckland suburb of Westmere, and she went insanely worried. This happened while looking after her sick mother on Saturday, March 28.

Refusing to give up hope, Beer began to post missing notices on social media websites. Little did she know that the response was going to be overwhelming. There were searches by land, sea and air;  all in an effort to find her disabled dog. There was even a drone and a helicopter during the search. There were hundreds of volunteers, many of them were total strangers. In spite of  all the efforts, Beer was afraid that they were likely to find just a body because Dunhill was only used to life in the sheltered suburb where he was taken care of.

Miraculously, the dog was found in the middle of a swamp on April 1. He was dirty, covered completely in mud form the mangroves. He was in poor shape, dehydrated and hypothermic, but alive. The owner can still laugh about the ordeal she went through and refers to the situation as “An amazing April fool’s day joke that Donhill played on her”. She is extremely grateful to the kindness of strangers and all the friends she didn’t know they had.
