Although there are many reasons to love London, perhaps one that is best known to Brits as well as those around the world is Big Ben. This gigantic clock stands above London and throughout the day, it chimes in the hour in a way that is quite iconic. Most of us could not even imagine London without Big Ben, and fortunately, it is not going anywhere soon.
Big Ben has appeared on many television shows as well as in films throughout the years. The sound of the chimes that it makes is also an important part of BBC radio, as it rings in the news bulletins. The problem is, repair is necessary for Big Ben and there will be a few months in which the bongs will not be heard. This brings up an interesting problem, because the radio does not use a prerecorded bong from Big Ben.
That is when one eight-year-old girl had a brilliant idea.
“Phoebe, my daughter, wrote a letter to the PM show on BBC Radio 4 worried about how they are going to lead up to the 6 o’clock news with Big Ben being out of action next year,” wrote her father Jon Hanson on Facebook. “She offered her services to fill in and say BONG for them, their response was priceless…”
