Many of us grew up watching Pixar movies and one of the biggest was Toy Story. I think you would have a hard time finding someone that has not watched those movies at least once.
One thing about movies, such as Toy Story, is the fact that they tend to be for both adults and children. When we take our children to see them at the theater or watch them at home, we often find those hidden little gems that were meant only for the adult audience.
Sometimes, these may go hidden for many years and we might not get the humor until later in life. At other times, however, they may take the joke a little too far.
It seems as if that happened in Toy Story 2, when one particular joke went over the edge and was eventually removed in 2019. Due to the changing climate of cultural sensitivities, the gag was scrubbed and is no longer in the film.
Many people took to social media to respond to the scene, saying that they always felt it was inappropriate or that it was a good call to have it removed. Many are simply surprised that it wasn’t caught in the first place.
Some say that it was humorous when they first heard it but it was a little creepy, to say the least.
Others, however, say that it should have been kept, even arguing that it is more appropriate than ever. They say that comedy often highlights genuine issues, and Stinky Pete seems to be that issue.
If you remember, Stinky Pete was no angel and in this controversial scene, Woody spins around a box to find Pete along with two Barbie dolls inside of his box. In doing so, he interrupts a conversation in which stinky Pete is asking: “So, you two are absolutely identical?”
He then went on to say: “I’m sure I could get you a part in Toy Story 3.”
Afterward, he caresses the hands of one of the dolls, flirts with them, and suddenly realizes that he is being watched. He tries to regain his composure, saying: “Oh, I’m sorry, are we back?! Oh! Alright girls, lovely talking with you. Yes, anytime you’d like some tips on acting, I’d be glad to chat with you.” And then sends the Barbies on their way.
The joke is obviously a hit at some of the sleazy producers in the industry. It is also something that has no longer appeared in any of the updated releases. If you really want to see it, there’s always YouTube.
