After Marty McFly came back to the future in the first episode, Doc Brown went forward to a future date, and that date has now come and gone. Some of the predictions about what the future held have come true but others did not quite reach the mark.
One of the futuristic products that made a splash in Back to the Future II were the self lacing shoes. Although it seemed as if that was futuristic at the time and even up until a few weeks ago, Nike has now revealed that they are releasing replica trainers in 2016. Although they look like the “real McCoy”, they do not lace themselves.
Profits from the shoes are going to go toward a good cause, the Michael J Fox Foundation. This is a charity group dedicated to bringing about awareness and raising money for Parkinson’s disease. Fox suffers from Parkinson’s and is the highest profile individual to have the disease. Although he may be the best known, there are 6.3 million other people who also suffer from Parkinson’s disease worldwide.
