Husband Draws Cartoons For His Wife And They Capture Love On Simple Terms

Some husbands are very good at expressing themselves and putting into words what needs to be said. Other husbands, however, seem to struggle with letting their wives know how much they appreciate them and all they do. That seemed to be a problem for Andrew Hou, a man who could just not let his wife know how he felt with words.

Fortunately, he had an outlet for his feelings that allowed him to show his wife how he really felt. He did it through tiny illustrations, and what he had to say not only touched his wife, it has touched people all across the Internet.

1

“Love is thinking you’re beautiful doing the simplest things.”

Andrew was born in Canada but he is Chinese. His wife (HJ) is Korean. They have been married for 5 years and live in Seoul, South Korea. He had this to say about his illustrations:

“Korean not being my native tongue didn’t help either. So making silly, sappy doodles was my workaround for the problem.”

2

“Love is doing the things we love together.”

3

“Love is saving the last for you.”

This series is titles “HJ-Story” after the initials of his wife’s name in 2010. He started it as a personal blog but it grew to have a large fanbase.

4

“Cuddling you is the best thing in the world.”

5

“Love is picking me up when I’m down.”

Andrew and Kate used the illustrations to stay connected when their relationship was young.

“[Kate] was busy with school and I was busy with work, so we didn’t have a lot of time to meet up or even talk on the phone. So during work, I’d pretend to be ‘working’ and create these tiny doodles and send it to her on her cellphone.”

6

“Me going to work vs. me going to see you.”

After the doodles began to accumulate, Andrew started posting them online. His site grew in popularity so he turned the original sketches into the more polished drawings seen on his website today.

7

“Love is memories.”

8

“Love is learning to love what you love.”

Andrew hopes to help people take notice of the small moments in life. He said the following:

“We’re all so busy and caught up in everything that we forget about the little moments that are important — myself included. Drawing HJ-Story for me is not only to capture the moments of a relationship, but to remind me of the little moments that are easily forgotten.”
