40-Year Old British Wins Race, Sets Record

Joanne “Jo” Pavey may be 40 years old, but age did not stop her from winning the 10,000-meter gold medal at the 2014 European Championships in Zurich, Switzerland.

Born in September 1973, Jo Pavey has represented Great Britain at the Olympics from 2000 to 2012. She is happily married and has 2 children, one born in 2009, and the other one in 2013.

On August 12, 2014, Pavey won the 2014 European Championships, 10 months after she gave birth to her second child. She is now the oldest female European champion in history.
