One Man’s Good Deed Goes Viral

At times, we may do something that seems perfectly natural to us yet we have no idea how many people it is going to affect along the way. This fact will become more and more obvious to you as you read about this man, who turned an opportunity to be charitable during the holidays into something that many people are now “paying forward.”

As you read this story, try to remember that there are still good people in the world. Although the news often focuses on the negative issues that we may face in life, these positive stories are just as, if not more important for us to remember.

It started when Bobby Puryear stopped by the local bank to use the ATM machine. He noticed that someone had left $500 behind.

1

After picking up the money from the machine, he decided to take it in the bank and do the right thing. It was his hope that the owner could be found.

2

At first, the teller was somewhat confused as Bobby told the story about what had happened. Even the manager was unsure of what to do with the money. Bobby gave the suggestion that they should try to find the previous owner and return the money to them.

3

The very next day, the bank manager called Bobby and explained via a three-way conversation that the owner of the $500 had been found. As it turns out, it was left at the ATM by Edith, a 92-year-old woman who was very thankful for Bobby’s kind deed.

4

Edith explained that she was taking the money from the ATM to pay her rent, which was $480. In appreciation for what this kindhearted individual had done for her, she offered a $20 reward.

Bobby was completely floored, not believing that this woman wanted to give him the only money she had as a way of thanking him. He told her to have a nice day and that he didn’t want the money.

5

Bobby continued to think about this woman after he hung up the phone. After all, it was obvious that she struggled from month-to-month to make it financially. He called the bank manager and told him to transfer $200 of his own money into Edith’s account. When the rest of the branch heard of the kind deed that he did, they donated $500 and transferred it into her account as a Christmas gift!

6

The kind acts of this man have not stopped and, according to his Facebook page, Edith has been invited to his home to enjoy Thanksgiving with his family. He also called Meals on Wheels to come to her home and deliver hot meals every week. This story is a great example of how one small act of kindness can grow to meet a larger need.

I am stunned with the amount of friend request I am getting just from doing what’s right, I must live in a bubble…

The kind actions of this kind individual attracted the attention of local news stations. It is a story that has also gone viral, as many Internet publishers have posted this information as well. We can only imagine how much of a relief and surprise it was for Edith to find the extra money in her account.

Let us use this story as an inspiration for all of us to be kind to other people and to do good deeds. As we continue to help other people, we may yet inspire others to do the same.
