Bus Driver Saved 20 Kids From Burning Bus Then Went Back To Make Sure They Were All Out

There are many people who are dedicated to their job but Reneita Smith, who is a school bus driver, has gone above and beyond the call of duty. She has always cared for the students on her bus as if they were her own but this particular day, her worst fear occurred. When she was driving the 20 elementary school students, the bus caught fire. Her only concern was that each child was off of the bus safe and sound.

It started when a brake light indicator illuminated. Neighbours who saw what took place said flames were coming from the wheels of the bus. When she realised it was on fire, she didn’t hesitate to take action. She opened her door, took off her seatbelt and got the kids off the bus.

In fact, Smith continued to go back into the bus repeatedly until all 20 students were safe. A neighbour kept the children in one area in a nearby yard, which was a safe distance away. Smith even went back onto the bus to ensure that each seat was clear.

The parents of the children saved by Smith posted their gratitude on Facebook.

Although Smith saved nearly 2 dozen lives, she doesn’t consider herself to be a hero. She is a mum and says she feels responsible for the kids on her bus and is protective of them as if they were her own.

You can see the bus engulfed in flames in this video.

When we send our children to school, we trust that they will get there safely. Thanks to school bus drivers, such as Smith, we can be sure that they will get from here to there without any harm.
