Biological tests are getting more and more complex, but there are times when something just might go wrong in the process. For example, this man from Washington was told that the father of his son is actually his unborn brother! I know that it sounds like a strange episode of Jeremy Kyle, but it’s true!
When this man and his brother were still inside of the womb, he absorbed the extra genes from his twin. That twin was lost in early pregnancy, but his genes still continue to live in his twin brother’s DNA, as well as his twin brother son’s DNA!
This Washington man, who is 34 years old, is the first to hold a distinct title. Out of all of the paternity tests that have taken place, his is the first reported instant of the test being fooled by a “Chimera”, which is an individual who is composed of two genetically different types of DNA within their cells.
What is alarming is that the original paternity test was taken because the blood type of the son did not match either of the parents. If that wouldn’t cause you alarm, the fact that the test came back in the way that it did certainly would!
It is estimated that one out of every eight childbirths is started as a multiple pregnancy. Although the siblings that are miscarried may pass without instance, there are times when the cells from the sibling are absorbed by the remaining twin. This factor is rarely ever discovered, and a paternity test is the only way that you would know.
The way that it was discovered is that researchers used both his sperm and his saliva in a test and discovered that the genes were different. At that point, the man took a genetic ancestry test and the results suggested that the real father was in fact, his unborn brother.
