Giant Sea Elephant Rock Formation

In southern Iceland, a basalt Seacliff has been amazing people for generations, as it looks like a giant elephant or perhaps a woolly mammoth that is dipping his trunk in the ocean.

Heimaey is the area where this rock formation is located, and it is on a fairly young set of islands, geologically speaking. The islands are created by volcanoes and in 1973, a volcano on this island erupted. The elephant formation seen in these photographs results from lava flows. It attracts visitors from around the world who want to see this unique site.
