Anita Valkova is a 16-year-old girl who saw a dog in the schoolyard that needed her help. She was afraid, and had always had a fear of dogs but she recognized the need in this situation. You see, kids were throwing rocks at the dog and she knew it was time for her to step in.
After reaching out to different members of her family, no one agreed that it was a good idea to pick up this stray dog. It was obvious that the dog was suffering from a difficult skin condition and the children had wounded her.
Valkova was determined, however, that she would make a difference in this dog’s life. Here is what happened.
“She was in my schoolyard when I first saw her.
A group of kids were throwing stones at her and when I saw this little pooch all covered in blood, I knew I had to take action.”
Both her mother and her grandparents would not help the dog. They suggested it was best to move on.
Desperate to assist, however, Valkova contacted her estranged father for assistance. He told her he would meet her at the schoolyard in two hours.
She waited in the cold until her father arrived. After seeing the condition of the dog, he wouldn’t allow her in the car but he gave his daughter some blankets and said she should walk to the vet.
Valkova picked up the dog carefully and with the help of a friend, carried the dog to the vet. The veterinarian cleaned the wounds and the dog as well.
The following day, Valkova’s mother came to meet the dog. It took some convincing, but she allowed her daughter to bring the dog home.
The first day was difficult for both the dog and her new owner. The dog was named Alfeiya.
“I gave her a bath, we were both very scared. She of the water and I of her biting me. After I dried her fur, she got her claim on my bed.”
Valkova and Alfeiya became close friends. As the dog’s skin condition began to clear, her fur grew back.
Alfeiya can make a mess from time to time, but the young girl has no regrets.
“I’ve always been scared of dogs, but I couldn’t leave a creature to suffer when I could help. I hope this story gives you hope and inspiration to be a better person.”
