Sometimes, the best friendships are born out of the darkest circumstances. That is the case with Sri Ram, the puppy and his new friend, Bernie the calf. They have overcome some very bad circumstances and in the end, they are the best of friends.
It started when Juliana Castañeda, the founder and director of Juliana’s Animal Sanctuary in Colombia, found 4 abandoned puppies while surveying the sanctuary grounds. It seemed as if the puppies were just fitting in with the wild dog packs in the area.
Early the next morning, she was having a hard time sleeping. She couldn’t get those puppies off of her mind. It was then she decided to find forever homes for them.
At the same time, Bernie was born, but, as a male, he was considered undesirable. They wanted to sell him but found out he would be used for veal, so they contacted Castañeda to give him a new home.
At first, it may seem strange to see them cuddled and playing together. As you will see, however, animals have the ability to see beyond their differences and form a loving bond.

One of the puppies, Sri Ram, was left behind. He was quite lonely, so she moved him into the area with the older dogs.
That is where Sri Ram met Bernie.
Bernie was a male calf born on a dairy farm. Since male calfs are often slaughtered for veal, his owners wanted him to live on the sanctuary.
It was love at first sight.
She thinks they get along so well because of their ages. Both of them are under 6 months old
Now, they play in the grass for hours at a time. They are inseparable. When finished playing, they cuddle up for a nap.
They may be different species, but they look beyond those differences.
“Bernie thinks he is a big dog and Sri Ram thinks Bernie is a big dog,” she says.
They also spent time with the older dogs at the sanctuary.
Bernie loves his human friends as well. It looks like he really does think he is a dog.
They don’t let him on the beds, but he does get a place to sleep with the other dogs.
Best of all, these 2 friends will grow old together
