Many of us remember the story about Dion Leonard and a stray pup, Gobi, who joined him for a 155 mile marathon in China. Leonard was working on bringing the dog back to Scotland when she disappeared last week. When he found out that the dog was missing, he grabbed a flight to China as soon as possible to go find Gobi himself.
Leonard walked around the city where the dog was last seen, flyers in hand. It seemed as if it was almost as hard as the marathon, because strays are everywhere in the area. Eventually, however, his efforts paid off. A local resident recognised Gobi after seeing one of the flyers and called Leonard. The two of them were reunited.
“When we got there, I walked through the door and she came running towards me and ran around my legs and jumped up on me. It was love again at immediate sight,” he told the BBC.” Leonard still has a lot of paperwork to do but this time he’s not going anywhere without his soulmate. “I’ll be staying here as long as it takes to make sure everything is in place,” he said.
Last month a stray dog joined runner Dion Leonard for a 155 mile race in China and ran 23 miles in a single day.
The dog continued to race with Leonard, completing four of the stages out of six and the athlete decided to adopt the dog.
Leonard was working on the adoption papers to bring the dog back to Scotland when suddenly, the dog disappeared.
Leonard was shocked by the news and booked a flight as soon as possible to China to go find Gobi
