Birds are amazing creatures and, like all animals, they are quite good at caring for their own needs. From time to time, however, they may run into some trouble and when that happens, there are times when kind humans step in to help. That was the case with this mockingbird, who had a foot condition that made walking difficult. Her feet would knuckle, although they didn’t know why.
When the people at the California Wildlife Center found out about this injured bird, they came to her rescue. They created some shoes for her that resembled snowshoes and strapped them on. It helped to put her feet back into the proper position so they were able to heal.
Before she wore the shoes, she had to stand on the top of her toes at all times. This only caused additional problems and injury. The shoes did the trick, and they have helped other birds in the past. Typically it only takes a week or two before they are back to normal.

They made her some ‘snowshoes’ so her injured feet would heal.
