Soldier’s Grave Suddenly Looks Greener. Then She Learns A Stranger Has Been Caring For It Secretly

Jake Reissig’s wife passed away after 65 years of marriage. At 86 years of age, the widower continues to keep a daily routine, including meeting one of his nine children for coffee every morning and going to clip roses at the garden. At the end of the day, he goes to visit his wife at the cemetery and leaves roses on her grave. He also cares for the grave as well.

The area was in the middle of a severe drought and Jake noticed that the grass around his wife’s plot was drying up. He was sure to water the grass every day until it became a bright green colour again.

Jake then noticed a woman at another grave who was crying. He learned that the grave was of a fallen soldier and that the woman who was crying was the man’s sister.

What he did next has touched many hearts.

Jake Reissig and his wife, Liz, were married for 65 years before she passed away. He still visits her grave every day at the cemetery to leave flowers and to tend to the grass surrounding the headstone.

While he was watering the grass one day, he saw a woman kneeling at another grave crying. He consoled the woman and learned that it was the grave of a fallen soldier.

The US soldier was Joseph Anthony Villasenor, a member of the Air Force since 1994. Joseph loved all types of sports but especially softball. He died in a car accident on his way to play a softball game at only 36 years of age.

After Joseph’s sister left the cemetery, Jake was moved to action. Along with watering his wife’s grave every day, he started to water Joseph’s grave as well.

When Joseph’s parents, Raymond and Rachel went to visit the grave, they saw that the grass was much greener than the surrounding graves. They thought it was a miracle.

In reality, Jake was to thank and they eventually saw him caring for their son’s grave.

Jake’s son, Roger, posted the story on Facebook about his father. It went viral.

There are now two graves at the cemetery that are just a little greener.

We could use more of his selflessness in this world.
