A large retail store in the United States, The Gap, has decided that it has had enough of being politically correct. Rather than adhering to the standards that other people feel are right, they are going to do what they feel is right and say “Merry Christmas” when people shop at their store. This decision is being celebrated by The American Family Association. They have decided to say Merry Christmas rather than saying Happy Holidays.
According to The American Family Association, 80% of retailers have decided that they would do away with saying happy holidays and opt for the more traditional, Merry Christmas. This is a trend that the organization has been trying to reverse for many years. They even provide resources necessary so that these changes can be implemented within communities. In addition, they also organise campaigns to help people fight against being overly politically correct.
If you visit The Gap this holiday season, you’ll see signs inside of the store that say “Merry Christmas.” This is actually a change from what has taken place at that retailer in the past, where many of them were sticking to the politically correct term, “Happy Holidays.” It may also bring in extra customers to their store, as many people have also grown tired of being politically correct in this way as well. Time will tell which direction it will go, but for now, they are doing what they feel is right.
