Marc Walsh is a military veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps. He also knows a thing or two about integrity and honor. However, when most of us lose our wallet or purse, we imagine the worst, and Marc was no different. When the vet lost his wallet in the snow, he figured he would never see his credit cards, cash, and military ID again. The Detroit resident told Fox 2 News that he was “Really heartbroken, I really didn’t know what to do.” The last thing Marc ever expected was a knock on the door from two guardian angels.
Makayla and Makhia Vincent were 14-year-old twin sisters who happened upon Marc’s wallet on their way to school and decided to make it their personal mission to return the wallet and all its contents back to its rightful owner. Aside from being fantastic kids, they also had another motivation. You see, their grandfather also served, and they knew that they would wish for someone to do the same for him.
“I read the veterans card and I was like I would hate if that was my granddad and that happened to him so I knew we had to return it,” Makyla said.
However, when the sisters went to Marc’s home to return the wallet, he wasn’t home.
Fortunately, Marc had a security camera installed, which captured his Good Samaritan visitors. On January 12, Fox 2 News helped the girls connect with Marc after the man contacted the station for help.
“I’m so incredibly grateful, so grateful and humbled,” he told them. “It renews my faith in humanity it really does.”
Marc said that he was amazed by the girls’ honesty, and because of this, he gave them a $200 reward. But, for these special young ladies, their true reward was knowing they’d done the right thing and made their grandfather proud.
They also know there are folks out there who would have chosen to keep the wallet (or at least the cash), but that isn’t who they are.
“I feel really happy and grateful that I could help somebody because I know other people could have kept the money,” Makyla said.
And countless people on social media have praised the young ladies for their honesty.
“Glad to hear about kids doing something good. There are so many wonderful teens that get overshadowed by the bad ones. Good for you girls this Granny is proud of you both,” Suzanne Smith wrote on Facebook in response to an earlier 2020 apost.com story.
“Real Americans! Too bad the idiots get so much press! The idiots are the minority yet they get all the attention! Sad! God Bless you and you families!” Michelle Gordon added, echoing Smith’s sentiment.
“Heartwarming! Some children are still being raised with compassion and decency!” Gerri Cassidy Cullinan commented, thanking the young women for their kindness.
