If you have ever seen a flying squirrel in the wild, it is easy to recognize that they are quite acrobatic! Even if you see them on television, the fact that they can launch from one tree and glide effortlessly to another is amazing. In Japan and Europe, however, there are other flying squirrels that are the cutest animals I’ve ever seen in my life!
Although these flying squirrels do not actually “fly”, they can glide for long distances. They can do so because of the membrane that exists between their front and rear legs. Some flying squirrels can glide for distances of 100m or longer and they may do so to get to another tree or to escape a predator.
