Chunky the Chihuahua is an animal that has a very sad story. Unfortunately, 4 teenagers tortured this poor dog for hours and then left him for dead by the side of the road, the Thanet Gazette reported. Not only did the teens give him drugs, they set him on fire and broke his neck before discarding him!
Chunky was able to survive the ordeal but obviously, not without some long-lasting repercussions from the abuse. It may be an extreme case, but unfortunately, animal abuse is a rather common problem and it is one that needs to be addressed immediately.
The RSPCA investigators on the case had the following to say…
“This was the most disturbing case I have ever dealt with, by an absolute mile. These youths admitted feeding him drugs, kicking and punching him, and wringing and breaking his neck before dumping him. They also said they set fire to his face and eyes after lighting a deodorant aerosol can. The whole thing sends shivers down my spine.”
When Chunky was found, he had a broken neck, broken leg and burns on his face and eyes. Apparently, the boys were simply trying to amuse themselves by torturing this poor animal for hours. After leaving him by the side of the road, it is thought that he was alone for days before he was found.
The four teens involved in this case are not able to be named because they are underage. It is known, however, that they have been banned for 5 years from owning a pet. In addition, there were other probationary punishments levied against those individuals.
More than likely, you are wondering why they are only kept from owning pets for 5 years, when they should be banned from owning them for life!
You are not the only person who has those thoughts. Maxine Barry has started a petition to ask David Cameron to ban anyone who abuses animals from ever owning one again.
According to this petition…
“These offenders should be placed on an Animal Cruelty Register which would follow them around for life. Animal abuse is serious and the laws must change.”
If you agree with banning animal abusers from owning animals for life, you can sign the petition here.
You will also appreciate knowing that Chunky has recovered from his injuries and is now back with his owners. Veterinarians feel that he may deal with timidity issues for the rest of his life.
