The electronic age has changed the way that many of us look at our work and our lives. We are never far from our smart phones and our computers are permanently a part of our work life. Because of the technology that is available, it has become possible to automate many parts of our life, and one person has taken it to the extreme.
The man in this article decided it was time to write a lot of scripts that would automate the majority of his work. Not only do they respond to customers, they can make coffee and even send text messages to his wife, hands free!
The programmer, named Nihad Abbasov (Narkoz) first learned about the power of the scripts when another programmer at his place of employment was using them brilliantly. He was of the mindset that “if something – anything – requires more than 90 seconds of his time, he writes a script to automate that.”
One of the scripts that we find brilliant will automatically send a text message to his wife when he is staying late at work. If he is logged into the servers anytime after 9 PM, it would send a text message, choosing from a preset list of excuses.
Another script was designed to automate part of his work on the customer service end. If he was sent an email that included the words “trouble,” “help” or “sorry,” the script would check the customer’s database for the last backup and send a reply “No worries mate, be careful next time.”
This next script is particularly genius, although somewhat daring. If he was not feeling well in the morning and had not logged on to the servers by 8:45 AM, it would automate sending an email to his boss. The script was named “hangover,” and we are sure that he tries to use it with some discretion.
Finally, he had a script that was perfect for keeping him from getting up out of his chair at work. The script hacked the coffee machine and would inform the machine that it was time to pour a drink. It worked on a 24 second delay because that’s how long it took him to walk to the machine from his desk.
Now if only he could get the coffee machine to deliver the coffee, I would be impressed!
