The Montgomery County Animal Shelter in Conroe, TX was recently the site of a story that, quite frankly, I still have a difficult time understanding. It was about a man who was dropping his one-year-old dog off at the shelter because, in his words, “She always wants to be my my side.” That’s right, he was dropping her off because she was too affectionate.
There were additional reasons why he was leaving the dog at the shelter, such as the dog eating the sofa but no one could understand his initial complaint that she was too affectionate. Can you imagine abandoning an animal because she loved you too much?
The dog’s name was Jubilee and she was a Irish setter and white and black blue heeler mix. Now that she was being dropped off at the shelter, she was without a home for the first time and desperately needed a family that would accept her. Since the story went viral, Jubilee became a dog in extreme demand.
This is a picture Jubilee. She is absolutely adorable and affectionate animal but her previous owner decided that her need for attention and closeness was too much for him. She was dropped off at the Montgomery County animal shelter for that reason.
The people at the shelter were in shock when they heard that he was dropping her off because “she always wanted to be by my side.”
The man then left go of the leash and walked out of the shelter, unaware of what would take place with Jubilee.
Someone that was standing nearby took the above picture and posted it to Facebook. Jubilee didn’t understand what was going on and she was not only confused, she was totally anxious as her owner walked out of the door and out of her life.
After the picture and story were posted to Facebook, it was viewed and shared by more than 35,000 people.
Within a day after it posted, animal lovers far and wide were contacting the shelter and asking to adopt this wonderful dog.
It was a woman by the name of Samantha that eventually adopted Jubilee. She did so just one day after she was dropped off.
Jubilee may have put off her previous owner because of her affection but that is exactly what Samantha loved about her. It was her love and affection that got her noticed and according to Samantha…
“It touched me. She loved so much. I knew I was supposed to have her.”
The story doesn’t end there. Two other families came to the shelter to adopt Jubilee but when she was no longer available, they each adopted another dog!
Jubilee now lives with the family that includes another rescue dog named Abby, Samantha, Samantha’s mother and a teenage son.
The family is planning on working with a trainer to help deal with the anxiety and emotional issues that are being experienced by Jubilee. They are more than happy to do what is necessary to ensure that Jubilee is comfortable and happy in her new environment.
When it comes down to it, Samantha feels privileged that Jubilee’s previous owner brought her into the shelter and let them know why he was leaving her. It is because of that knowledge that Jubilee was able to find a home with a loving family.
