Wiebke Haas is a woman with a lot of passion. Not only is she passionate about photography, she is also passionate about her favorite subject, horses. As a matter of fact, she describes herself as a “typical horse girl” and she could not imagine a day when she was not around them.
Of course, horses have inspired humans since the beginning of time with their grace and power but they also have the ability to be lovable at the same time. It is the personality and emotion they display that Wiebke would like to share with the world.
She didn’t simply pick up a camera and begin snapping pictures. In fact, she spent three years becoming a certified photographer and then became self-employed, taking pictures of her favorite subject, horses. She has already published 3 books full of horse photos and her work has been featured worldwide. Here are some examples of what you can enjoy from those books.
Wiebke has had a love of horses her entire life and she knew from a young age that her life would involve them in some way.
After school, she had to make a choice as to whether she would work in an office or follow her passions.
She took three years to become a certified photographer and then she started her own business.
The majority of her work is created in the studio. This allows her to pose the horses against a black background. It is the contrast between the horses and the background that give such fantastic detail.
She also enjoys taking outdoor pictures, as it gives her the ability to capture the horses interacting with their environment.
As far as she is concerned, however, there is no place as suitable as the studio for capturing the grace and power that horses naturally display.
Although she loves her work, she does admit that it has some challenges. At times, it may take a few days before she gets the perfect picture that she had in mind. Of course, during the time, she spends time with the horse to study it and learn his unique personality.
“One of the most challenging and also fulfilling tasks is to find out how to direct and motivate [a] particular horse and turn an idea into a picture,”
She admits owning a business has its challenges but there is nothing she would rather do than work with the horses she loves.
