Newborn Jungle Cat Rescued after Forest Fire Claims Life of Mother

When catastrophe strikes in the jungle, tiny animals often are the ones who suffer the most. It often requires a miracle for them to pull through, and that miracle recently came in the form of an amazing rescue.

ARCAS, a Honduras based rescue organization, has recently rescued a newborn wildcat from a jungle fire. He was on his own amidst the roaring flames. A team of rescuers looked for the mother in the surrounding area but unfortunately, she was not found. It is thought that she was either injured or died in the fire.

The tiny creature was rushed to the rescue facility where they started immediate efforts to rehabilitate this animal back to health. Thanks to the diligence of the crew, the margay is getting excellent care. You can see some pictures of his progress below.

When fully grown, small wildcats may reach up to 20 pounds in size. They are primarily found in Latin American countries.

Fire was what threatened this tiny margay’s life, although fires are not their biggest threat. The largest threats are the fur trade and deforestation.

It is estimated that as many as 14,000 of these beautiful cats are killed annually for their pelts. It is also thought that the figure is severely underestimated.

Thanks to wildlife rescue teams, such as ARCAS, some of these tiny cats will have the opportunity at life.

We believe all animals deserve a chance at a happy life.
