Like many people who have cat’s, they learn that they are often an animal that stays to themselves.
That was the experience of Sue McKenzie, who had a cat (Tom), for 20 years. She loved her cat but they never got very close, as Tom liked to stay off to himself.
When Tom suddenly started acting strangely recently, she knew that something had to be wrong.
The thing is, she didn’t realize that something was wrong with her, not the cat.
Over the course of a few weeks, Tom was pawing at her neck. Considering the fact that Tom liked to stick to himself, it was truly odd behavior. She had the following to say about the way he was acting:
“Tom has never been a very loving cat, he doesn’t come to me for cuddles very often. So I thought he was behaving very strangely when he suddenly starting coming to sit next to me, very straight, and tapping his paw on the back of my neck while meowing incredibly loudly.”
Sue took Tom to the vet, and the cat was cleared medically. It was then that the vet suggested that Tom might have been trying to tell her something. She took his advice and felt the area of her neck and felt a lump. As it turns out, the lump was Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Thanks to Tom and his relentless nagging, Sue is now free of cancer. She had surgery to remove the lump and 6 rounds of chemo.
